So, what’s a trade show podium? And how does it differ from a trade show counter? The terms “podium,” “pedestal,” and “counter” are often used interchangeably in the world of trade shows. However, there can be subtle differences based on their size and use, especially when considering different trade show kiosk ideas.

In general, a podium is a smaller version of a counter with a more streamlined, minimalist design. Their size makes them ideal for inline booth spaces (like a 10 x 10) or for a secondary “counter” in a larger booth. One of the more common pedestals for a portable display is the “case-to-counter,” which is a case that transforms into a podium, typically with a fabric wrap for branding.

6 Trade Show Podium Ideas That Improve Booth Flow & Engagement

1. Pop-Up Trade Show Counters

Smaller local or regional trade shows attract exhibitors with portable displays. These displays assemble in about an hour (or less) and pack in lightweight cases. Since there’s no place to store the case other than in the booth space, many manufacturers have devised a clever trick – turning the case into a counter or podium.

Most of the displays in our Fabric Pop-up Displays product gallery have a case-to-counter option. The V-Pod case complements any display space. It can be used in the booth as a standalone podium or combined with a full fabric wrap to enhance your messaging. Coupled with a unique fabric wrap, it puts your messaging front and forward.

2. Sustainable Trade Show Podiums

More and more companies adhere to sustainable practices, including in their trade show marketing. And exhibit manufacturers have responded with inline and island designs, along with eco-friendly counters, pedestals, and accessories. The ecoSmart Sustainable line offers a comprehensive range of podiums and counters, made with recycled aluminum, eco-board inserts, and sustainable fabrics.

Examples of ecoSmart podiums in the ECON-21C, constructed with FSC wood, the ECON-45C, with aluminum framework, and the ECON-44C, which serves as both a pedestal and a podium for presentations.

3. Backlit Trade Show Counters and Podiums

LED lighting has transformed the exhibit industry, making backlit, edge, and accent lighting a default option for many exhibitors. LEDs are inexpensive, durable, and programmable (in many cases). Plus, the electrical requirements are minimal on the show floor.

Backlit fabric graphics are the most common application, like ECON-16K and the MODN-1701c podiums, which are both smaller and lighter than a typical counter.

Edge or accent lighting are quickly becoming standard, especially on custom counters. MODN-1593 and MODN-1738 are perfect examples with the latter featuring backlit fabric graphics and wireless charging pads.

4. Modular and Custom Kiosks for Versatility

More and more kiosks include interactive and touchscreen capabilities. Some are basically large touchscreens. Others include storage, literature holders, or counter space. Designed for tablets, touchscreens, or monitors. Kiosks are excellent for boosting attendee engagement and for capturing attendee information.

Most kiosks are modular, which makes them easier to ship, and can be customized and branded to fulfill any trade show marketing goal. The MODN-1395 is an elegant monitor with wraparound shelves, dual monitor mounts, and LED accent lights. The MODN-1660 features double-sided backlit fabric graphics, shelves, and (2) monitor mounts.

5. Lightweight Trade Show Counters and Podiums

Weight matters to many exhibitors, who prefer lightweight counters and podiums to reduce the shipping costs and material handling.  Fortunately, there’s a wide range of portable and modular options, with many assembling with no or minimal tools. In addition, they generally disassemble quickly and pack flat in cases or crates.

Two attractive, yet simple, portable podiums are the SYMN-414 and the SYMN-403. Both assemble in minutes and feature shelves.  The MODN-1719 and MODN-1703 are backlit counters with attached LED lights, making setup simple and easy.

Lightweight modular options, which typically have larger countertops and locking storage, are the MODN-1552 and the ECON-2C pedestals.

Branding is another benefit of these counters and podiums which is both cost-effective and easy to update from show to show.

6. Custom Trade Show Podiums With Built-in Storage

Custom podiums and counters are the ultimate trade show option, whether they’re an existing design or a ground-up design created just for you. Most are fully or partially assembled, reducing labor costs on the show floor. In addition, custom podiums almost always have locking storage and internal shelves.

Two popular choices are the MODN-1738 and the MOD-1737, both L-shaped backlit counters with wireless charging pads. They’re fully assembled and ship in a wood crate.

MODN-1731 and MOD-1726 are smaller backlit podiums. Both are upscale designs with fabric graphics, and locking storage.

Lastly, the MODN-1565 and MODN-1564 are display podiums, designed to showcase a product with recessed LED lights and a milk plex countertop. Both include a locking door and perimeter toe kick lighting.
